NEW STUDENTS

Step 1

MONDAY/ 9:00 AM

On the first day, the new student/s are required to take the entrance test which includes the written test and speaking (interview) test to determine their level in English. The written test takes one hour and 10 to 15 minutes for the speaking test and is facilitated by our Head Teachers.

Entrance Test – a total of 100 points

  1. Written Test
    • Consists of Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, Listening
    • 80 points
  1. Speaking Test
    • 20 points

 

Step 2

ORIENTATION

After taking the test, the students will be gathered for an orientation which is conducted by the managers-in-charge and takes a maximum of two hours. The orientation includes the introduction about the Philippines, the institution, and the school’s rules and guidelines. The students are then required to sign an agreement to abide by the rules and conditions of the school.

Step 3

SHOPPING

In the afternoon, at 1:30 PM, the students are assisted by a student-manager to the mall for currency exchange and to shop for their necessities.

Step 4

ISSUANCE OF SCHEDULE

The student’s schedule is released at 19:00 onwards and it includes the issuance of books and level of the student. Classes start at 8:00 until 17:00. The student’s schedule depends on the availability of the teachers.

CHANGING OF CLASS

Changing of Schedule is every Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM and effective on the following Monday. The new student is allowed to change his/ her schedule after two weeks of stay except for a valid reason. In changing teachers or schedule, the students are provided a “Changing of Class Form” that is posted at the office counter together with the schedule of the available teachers. Having two hours or more with the same teacher is not allowed regardless of any reason.

If the student wants to change his/ her class from group class to one on one class or vice versa and/ or change course, the manager-in-charge or the scheduler should be informed beforehand.

COURSES

REGULAR ESL COURSE

The Regular ESL Course is a total of 6 hours and is constituted with 4 one on one Classes and 2 hours Group Class. Subjects include Grammar, Writing, Reading, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Speaking, and Listening.

 It also includes two free optional classes - TOEIC Class at 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM and CNN Class at 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM, from Mondays to Thursdays with a maximum of 20 members, first come, first served basis. There is a reservation form that is posted for the students every Friday.

 INTENSIVE ESL COURSE

The Intensive ESL Course is a total of 8 hours and is composed of 4 hours one on one Class (Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading, and Writing); 3 hours group class with local teachers; and 1 hour group class with a native speaker teacher (Australian or American).

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) COURSE

GSELC Inc. is collaborated with the British Council, an international cultural relations organization teaching and testing candidates to gain English Language qualifications. The IELTS Course is a total of 8 hours which includes 2 ESL one on one classes (Grammar and Vocabulary); 2 IELTS one on one classes (Reading and Speaking); 2 IELTS group classes (Writing and Listening), 1 ESL group class with a native speaker teacher; and 1 Special Class for IELTS. The student has the option to choose whether they would like to take General Module or Academic Module. Mock tests are provided twice per month (every two weeks) to prepare the students for the actual test.

SELF-STUDY TIME

Self Study Time is from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Study Hall and attendance is a must. The purpose of self-study time is for the student to enhance learning on their own.

RULES AND GUIDELINES

 

ATTENDANCE

The students are required to attend his or her classes. If the student is absent for 3 times with the same class, the class will be removed. The student will be grounded if he/ she was absent in his/ her class and/ or study time except for a valid reason. One class will be removed randomly if the student incurred more than 5 absences and tardiness. There will be counseling and/ or possible expulsion for student’s absences for more than 6 times. If the student is sick, he/ she should inform the office immediately.

OTHERS

 

There are certain punishments for the students who have violated rules and it depends on what grounds. The immediate action is to give penalty for the student and/ or give counseling then give them 1st warning. If the student repeatedly violates rules, possible expulsion from the school is applied.

MONTHLY TEST

The Monthly Test is held every last day of the month. It consists of the written test (Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary, Listening, and Writing) and the speaking test. The written test is facilitated by the head teachers and assigned teachers. The speaking test is facilitated by the group class teachers.
